The project of Encounters with art carried out jointly with the City Hall and National Museum in Lublin for senior citizens is developing dynamically. We would like to thank Ms Anna Augustyniak Deputy Mayor of the City of Lublin for Social Affairs and Mr Sławomir Skowronek from the Department of Social Initiatives and Programmes for opening the meeting. Our project attracted another outstanding curator, Ms Magdalena Norkowska, who gave a lecture entitled ‘Between the Louvre and Versailles’ in one of the representative rooms of the City Hall. The project of meetings aims to facilitate contact with art for people who have difficult access to it.

Participants learned about the history of Versailles – its origins and functioning as the seat of the monarch. And also the historical background presenting the rules of the state under Louis XIV. They were shown the monuments that can still be admired today in the residence, which was the official residence of the king from the 2nd half of the 17th century, after Louis XIV carried out a major reconstruction of the palace. Louis moved to Versailles in 1682 and gradually moved the royal court there. The Palace of Versailles became the largest palace in Europe and the official residence of Louis XIV and his ministers. Versailles, one of the finest buildings of the Classical Baroque, thus took over from Paris as the capital of France.

The history of the palace generated a lot of interest among the participants, and after the lecture there was time for questions, followed by a small refreshment.
