MEETINGS WITH ART – EMOTIONS IN ART
News / Blog
Another Encounter with Art took place. This time the participants were elderly people under the care of the Department of Initiatives and Social Programmes of the Lublin City Hall. The topic of the lecture led by Mrs Danuta Szewczyk-Prokurat was one of the most important concepts connected with art – emotions.
Throughout the ages, artists have expressed their emotions through the works they have created, while at the same time incorporating elements intended to evoke specific associations and feelings in the audience. In architectural art, every element of a building was of great importance – the scale of the building, the light, the stained glass windows, etc. and influenced the viewer. For example, in sacred architecture, carefully designed elements were intended to evoke a sense of the sacred in the faithful; darker, less lit spaces created an atmosphere of mystery and spiritual focus.
In the workshop part, reproductions of works of art were given to the participants, they chose the ones that aroused their emotions. Analysing the different artistic means and the effects of their use, they tried to look at the feelings evoked by specific works of art. It was the first time that literally every participant in the meeting was actively involved in a discussion about their impressions.
Encounters with Art project is realized jointly with the National Museum in Lublin, and its aim is to facilitate contact with art for people who have difficult access to it, to educate and to be inspired by it.
