PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT PROGRAM III.2024
News / Blog
The success of the psychological support programme for refugees and their children run by the STOCK Foundation is that so many people had the courage to ask for help. Thanks to this, many stories about the difficult beginnings of refugees have a happy ending. Today we want to introduce you to the first one.
Ms Alona came to Poland with her eight-year-old daughter and settled in a refugee centre. After some time, overwhelmed by the situation she found herself in and the fact that she had to cope with it alone, she started to abuse alcohol. She was given a helping hand by the manager of the centre, who called a psychologist who works with the Foundation for help.
Ms Alona went to therapy regularly for 8 months and now stays in contact with a psychologist and attends AA meetings. The support offered has allowed her to stabilise her situation. She has been sober for 1.5 years, has a permanent job, has a Polish partner – they met at an AA group meeting, rent a flat together and bought a car. Ms Alona is planning to finish postgraduate school so that she can develop professionally. The stable family situation has also had a positive impact on her daughter, who is doing well in her new environment. We are very happy that the Foundation’s support has enabled Ms Alona to radically change her life.
