The war has taken away the chance for many young Ukrainians to continue their musical education. The Stock Foundation supports talented children and young people by funding music lessons, instrument tuition and work with teachers. Thanks to the scholarships, young people can develop their skills, return to their passion and regain a sense of continuity in lives disrupted by armed conflict. We support not only talent, but also its future.
How it started
The scholarships grew out of “Spirit of Ukraine”, the program the foundation launched in Lublin after 24 February 2022. Among the refugees were children and teenagers in the middle of their music education, interrupted not for lack of talent but because of the war.
We run the program together with the Homo Faber Association, which knows Lublin's refugee community and helps identify those most in need of support.
Why we run it
An interrupted musical education is rarely made up later — an instrument demands continuity. The scholarship keeps the learning going during the months when a family is still rebuilding its life.
The program also covers music teachers, for whom leading an ensemble is both work and a way of keeping their professional skills alive.
How it works in practice
We fund lessons, instruments and participation in concerts. A bandura ensemble and a guitar ensemble led by Mirek Sokołowski have grown out of the program; among other things we bought the scholarship holders a concert guitar, and luthier Łukasz Murawski helps with instrument repairs as a volunteer.
The scholarship holders perform regularly — from the “Winter Painted with Sound” concert to the bandura ensemble’s Christmas performance at Homo Faber. Since 2024 the program has also supported a few young athletes, including in swimming, judo and taekwon-do.
